If you’re reading this, maybe you’re not sure what your next step should be. Maybe you’re stuck in a career that doesn’t feel like a good fit, so now you’re trying to figure out what your next move is. Do you feel like you’ve been in a “transitional phase” that just won’t seem to end?
You’re not alone, a lot of people go through this. A lot of people have had variations of this conversation with me. They admit to feeling stuck and not being sure what to do. Whenever I have this conversation with someone, there’s a book I recommend that they read: StrengthsFinder by Tom Rath. I’ve recommended this book to so many people that I’ve actually just started keeping extra copies lying around so that I can give them out to people.
It’s a quick read, and essentially it helps you discover what you’re really good at. You might be surprised to find that you have strengths you didn’t know you had, or strengths that you haven’t been making enough use of.
And the book is more than just food for thought. When you finish reading the book, there’s a test the book gives you access to which you can take. This test is key because it definitively identifies your strengths based upon your responses in the test. Once you know what you’re really good at doing, you can apply this knowledge as part of figuring out what your next move should be. You may have options you’ve never considered before.
