As a fitness professional, ultimately what you’re selling your client is a transformation. Weight loss, improved fitness, muscle gains, whatever it is, your promise to your client is that you can change them for the better. Depending on what a specific client’s goal is, however, the rate of progress might be slow. It’s easy for them to stop appreciating the process and have their initial enthusiasm falter. They might start fixating on the distance to their goal, and when that fixation builds, discontent and discouragement usually aren’t far behind.
This is where tracking your client’s data can come in handy. Your client’s goal really might be far off, but if you can make them see how far they’ve already come, you can keep them motivated when their discipline starts to waver. From the very first session (or even from before your first session if your client has any metrics to share from before you start working together), keep track of those reps, their heart rate, and every vital statistic. Changes which feel and look subtle can seem much more significant (and psychologically pleasing) when there are hard numbers to measure the progress. Better yet, it’s objective proof that you’re delivering on your promise to transform your client. It’s a great way to handle things if your client challenges your methodology. How can they argue against your process when the results back you up? Keeping track of a wide range of metrics for your client can help them have a holistic view of their progress; progress in certain areas might hit a plateau for a while, but if other things are still moving along you can assure them that plateau is only temporary.
At Online SuperCoach, we can help you come up with a system for measuring your clients’ progress and delivering that information in a way that keeps your clients motivated, and most importantly, happy to continue using your services. They’ll never dream of working with anyone else.
